The Los Angeles Rams have nothing short of a decorated history in its existence in the NFL. The franchise went from Cleveland in the 1930s to Los Angeles in the 1940s to St. Louis in the late 1990s and finally back to LA in 2016. That's one heck of a journey.

After a handful of zip code changes, the franchise raked up quite a list of antagonists. Here's their five top rivals in franchise history.

5. New England Patriots

One of the most talked-about rivalries in all of sports is the rivalry between Boston and LA. Whether it's football, basketball or even baseball, once you pit these two cities up against each other, there's going to be fireworks for sure. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Patriots have had their fair share of wins against Los Angeles in the playoffs in recent years.

LA had the perfect opportunity to get revenge against New England when the two met in Super Bowl LIII in 2019. Tom Brady and the Pats were going to try and prove their mettle against Jared Goff and the Rams. The much-awaited match-up between the two fell a bit short as they managed to produce the lowest-scoring match in Super Bowl history as the Rams lost to the Pats 13-3. The loss also marked the sixth consecutive playoff loss by the Rams against the Patriots. I guess the “Beat LA” chants are working against the Rams.

4. Dallas Cowboys

The relationship between these two franchises actually started out great. They were one of the first two teams in the league to conduct joint practices in the 1960's. The friction between the two seemed to have started when then Cowboys general manager Tex Schramm accused then Rams head coach George Allen of sending a spy to scout their training camp, which the latter comically responded to by saying that the Cowboys also sent a scout up a tree.

The two NFC rivals went on to battle in the field where the Rams had the last laugh in a 35-13 victory in Dallas. The two franchises continued to meet toe-to-toe, tallying a 4-4 record in their eight total playoff meetings.

A recent 2015 scuffle in a joint-training between the two squads prove that the rivalry between these two is still alive. In January of 2019, the two relived an age-old playoff rivalry with the Cowboys eliminating the Rams in their ninth playoff game with a 30-22 win.

3. Minnesota Vikings

Another bitter rival of the Rams are the Minnesota Vikings. There's a lot of history between the two franchises. In 1961, the very first home game of the Vikings in the Twin Cities was played against guess who – the Rams. LA went on to win 21-17 and the bad blood between the two NFC giants continued to brew, winning key playoff match-ups against each other decade after decade.

One of the more memorable marquee wins for the Rams was in the 1999 NFL season where quarterback Kurt Warner led the team to a win against the Vikings which started a historic playoff run for LA. The Rams went on to win their first-ever Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XXXIV.

2. Seattle Seahawks

A rather young feud that's been ensuing for the past few decades for the Rams is against west coast neighbors, the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams and the Seahawks have traded wins through the years with the Seattle-based squad having the slight advantage in their series, 24-20. The inner division rivals get to go at it twice every season which is additional motivation for both squads who are hungry for post-season success.

The rivalry between the two has also entered the Twitter arena when Rams punter Johnny Hekker threw some shade and poked some fun on Seahawks QC Russel Wilson's summer training camp.

1. San. Francisco 49ers

Niners, 49ers, George Kittle

At the top of our list is none other than the San Francisco 49ers. Just like the Seahawks, the 49ers share a cozy spot in the NFC West Division with the Rams. The Rams returning to LA in 2016 just made things a little more interesting between the two making NFL's ‘Battle of California' must-see-TV twice a year.

The Rams enjoyed dominance over the 49ers in the earlier part of their rivalry but San Francisco slowly but surely crept its way back. The 49ers went on to win 17 straight games against the Rams from 1990-1998 which continued to spark the intense rivalry between both California-based franchises.

Both squads won one NFC championship to close out the 2010-2020 decade with neither one of them ending those runs as the penultimate NFL champions.
