The LSU Tigers were happy to welcome Shareef O'Neal to campus back in 2019, but it looks as if his tenure with the program has run its course. According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, O'Neal has made the surprising decision to enter the transfer portal, seeking a move away from his father Shaquille O'Neal's alma mater.

O'Neal served in mostly a bench role for the Tigers throughout his two seasons with the team. The 6-foot-10 big man appeared in 24 games throughout his tenure at LSU, including 14 games this past season. He averaged 2.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game across 9.2 minutes per night. He struggled for playing time at the start of the year but managed to work his way into a small rotation role for the Tigers during the second half of the season.

This will be the second program O'Neal is set to transfer from, having departed UCLA after the 2019-20 season in order to join the Tigers. A scary heart condition forced him to miss the entire 2018-19 season at UCLA. He made a full recovery and returned to the team in 2019-20, when he played in 13 games for the Bruins, averaging 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds. Following that season, he entered the transfer portal, at which point he wound up at LSU.

After the Tigers' first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament this season, multiple players have bolted from the program, opting to hit the transfer portal. Head coach Will Wade was fired from the program in mid-March amid allegations of as many as five Level I NCAA violations.
