Manchester United had the football world stunned and excited when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer from Juventus. His return to Manchester United stole headlines for weeks and just about everyone was eager to see him make his long-awaited return to the Premier League. It seems not everyone was so keen to see Ronaldo back in Manchester, however. Edinson Cavani revealed the arrival of Ronaldo actually made him want to leave the club, via ESPN.

Cavani, who struggled to find opportunities at Manchester United this season because of injury, admitted that the signing of Ronaldo left him questioning his own place within the team.

“At the moment it was done, I thought it was a good thing for Manchester to sign Cristiano,” Cavani said via ESPN Brasil. “Knowing a bit about the world of football these days, the first thing I did was call my [brother and manager Walter Fernando Guglielmone] and said: ‘Fernando, if this had happened a week ago, I would ask you to find me another club.'”

Cavani claimed his desire to leave the club was not because he didn't want to play alongside Ronaldo, however, he realized the impact that the superstar could have on his role with the team. Cavani featured in just 13 matches for Manchester United in the Premier League in 2021-22, recording 6 starts. He scored 2 goals and added 1 assist across a total of 631 minutes.

The Uruguayan international is expected to leave the club this summer, reportedly seeking a move to La Liga, though nothing appears to be in the works just yet. His comments regarding the Ronaldo signing were certainly eye-opening, however, showcasing that perhaps not everyone was thrilled about his return to England's top flight.
