The boxing mega-fight of 2021 has just been confirmed, with eight-division world champion and current Senator of the Republic of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao set to return to the ring to battle former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ Conor McGregor next year.

The confirmatory statement comes straight from Pacquiao's camp via an official press release:

“Our lawyers are finalizing all the confidential details, but both fighters are getting ready for this one epic last boxing fight,” the statement read, via CNN Philippines.

Pacquiao comes back from a lengthy hiatus to battle McGregor in what should be a highly-anticipated boxing match. Needless to say, this bout will also earn both fighters a significant payday. According to Pacquiao's statement, a significant portion of his earnings from this fight will be used to help with the efforts to battle COVID-19 in his native Philippines.

The incumbent senator has taken a very active role in the country's battle against the dreaded coronavirus. At the moment, the Philippines has still struggled to quell the spread of the virus throughout the country. For his part, Pacquiao is willing to dig into his own pocket to provide financial assistance for his countrymen. Based on his recent statement, he appears to be looking to do the same with his earnings from the McGregor mega-fight.

As for Conor McGregor, the outspoken fighter already announced earlier that he has chosen Manny Pacquiao as his next opponent. This statement from Pacquiao's confirms earlier rumors, which comes as an early Christmas present to all the boxing-starved fans out there.
