Note: All stats are prior to Friday's game

Leading the way as the current frontrunner in the AL West division, it is Seattle that has lost a pair of games in a row including recently losing two of three games to the AL Central leaders in the Cleveland Guardians. Nonetheless, the Mariners are still equipped with a more than healthy 44-33 record and hold a commanding eight-game lead over the Houston Astros in the divisional standings.

On the other side of things, the Marlins have endured an opposite experience in comparison to the Mariners to begin their 2024 regular season. On paper, Miami has accounted for a lousy 25-49 record and are only 14-26 in front of the home fans. Clearly, time is running out for the Marlins to make some noise this season as the team MUST start stringing together some wins before it's far too late.

Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

At first glance, it may appear that the Mariners have a phenomenal chance of covering the spread in this road tilt and for good reason. To begin, the recent dominance of starting hurler Logan Gilbert could give Seattle an added edge in the pitching department. Not only does the steady right-hander own a 2.93 ERA on the season, but he is also fresh off a dominating outing in which he tossed eight innings of scoreless ball en route to the team securing a 5-0 win over the defending champion Texas Rangers.

In addition, the Mariners offense will need to come back to life after recording just three runs in their previous two games combined. All together, Seattle's sticks can experience cold stretches far too often, but that does not mean they aren't capable of putting up some runs on the scoreboard. Whether it's outfielder Julio Rodriguez and his team-leading 79 hits or Cal Raleigh taking charge with his 12 home runs, there are plenty of names in this lineup with pop in their bats.

Why The Marlins Will Cover The Spread/Win

Things can't get much worse, can they? While only time will tell, Miami's number one priority is to start winning games at an extremely consistent rate. In order to pull this off, the Marlins are going to need to change their identity entirely.

As it stands, the best part about this Marlins squad is in the form of center-fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. Known for his electrifying speed and jaw-dropping play, the 26-year-old has found himself in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak and has even showcased a power stroke with ten home runs on the season. Without a doubt, Chisholm is Miami's most talented hitter by a considerable margin and he will need to record some clutch at-bats if the Marlins are going to end up upsetting the Mariners at IoanDepot Park.

Final Mariners-Marlins Prediction & Pick

Overall, Seattle is in good shape for this contest considering Logan Gilbert has put together solid outings and also with him owning the 16-best ERA in all of baseball. Furthermore, Miami's struggles are more than evident and this will continue later this evening. Take Seattle in this one and don't overthink it!
