The Miami Marlins open up a four-game set with the Washington Nationals for the final games between these two teams this season. Check out our MLB odds series as we hand you a Marlins-Nationals prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game.

The Marlins are currently 66-67 after dropping both games to the Tampa Bay Rays. However, they are still just three games back in the NL Wild Card race. This four-game set could be mean a lot if they come out and sweep the Nationals. In nine games against Washington this season, the Marlins are 7-2. In those games, Miami is batting .269 with 22 extra-base hits. Luis Arraez leads the team with 12 hits, including two doubles and a home run. Jorge Soler is 9-for-34 against Washington, but he has hit four home runs. Soler also leads the team in runs scored and RBIs against the Nationals. On the mound, the Marlins have a 3.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 8.4 K/9. Five of their nine starts have been quality.

The Nationals are batting .254 against the Marlins this season. Lane Thomas has 10 hits to lead the team, including three home runs, six runs scored, and five RBIs. As a team, the Nationals have 28 extra-base hits against the Marlins this season. On the mound, Washington is pitching to the tune of a 3.94 ERA. They also have a 1.36 WHIP, and 6.6 K/9. In the nine games played, Washington has gotten six quality starts from their starting pitchers.

Braxton Garrett will start against Joan Adon in this game.

Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread

Braxton Garrett has had an up-and-down season, but he has made two really good starts against the Nationals this season. In those two starts, Garrett has combined for 12 innings pitched, a 3.00 ERA, 11 strikeouts to one walks, and the Nationals are batting just .244 off him. Those two starts are more than good enough to lead the Marlins to a win, but Miami only won one of those games. If Garrett can have another good start against Washington, the Marlins will cover the spread.

Garrett has also performed a lot better in road games this season. When pitching away from Miami, Garrett has a 2.86 ERA and opponents hit 47 points worse off him. The Nationals are a pretty decent hitting team, but Garrett should be able to have some success with this game coming on the road. Another good road start in this one would bring Miami back to .500.

Why The Nationals Could Cover The Spread

Adon has made four starts this season, and he has six total appearances. Although his ERA is not the best, Adon has a WHIP below 1.00. This means that some of the runs he is giving up are coming by way of luck. In his four starts, Adon has had two go six innings, and the Nationals have won all four of his starts. In fact, Adon just started against the Marlins and had a lot of success. He threw six shutout innings, allowed just three hits and struck out three in route to a Nationals' win. If Adon can repeat that success, the Nationals should be able to cover the spread.

Final Marlins-Nationals Prediction & Pick

This should actually be a pretty good game. However, the Marlins have the better pitcher on the mound. I will take Miami to cover this spread and get back to .500 on the season.

Final Marlins-Nationals Prediction & Pick: Marlins -1.5 (+100), Under 8.5 (-102)
