Tiger Woods stumbled out of contention at the 2022 Masters on Saturday, shooting a 6-over 78 on a blustery day at Augusta National. This dropped him to 7-over for the tournament and 16 strokes behind leader Scottie Scheffler.

While Tiger is going out with a whimper instead of a roar, just the fact that he has gotten to this point is amazing. There were doubts that he would be able to play in the Masters, but not only did he play, he also made the cut while a number of other top golfers missed it.

Even though Woods is no longer a threat at the Masters, his presence still looms over the golf world. In fact, his historic Titleist 681-T iron set that he used for the Tiger Slam in 2000 and 2001 just sold at Golden Age Auctions for a whopping $5,156,162, according to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.

Just how ridiculous is this price? The previously reported record for golf memorabilia was Horton Smith's green jacket, which sold in 2013 for $682,000.

A private equity investor from Houston named Todd Brock was the owner of the iron set. He bought the irons in 2010 for a paltry $57,242 at an auction when former Titleist vice president of player promotions Steve Mata sold them. Brock plans to use the proceeds for his foundation.

Tiger Woods won four consecutive major tournaments using these irons, which was capped off by his victory at the 2001 Masters. He has won five Green Jackets, with the most recent coming in 2019. He won't be winning a sixth this weekend, but perhaps there will be a sixth in his future as he continues to find his game again after his horrific car crash.
