The world was shocked when they learned that the Dallas Mavericks were going to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. To this very moment, there are probably still some out there who are still trying to process the move, as it can be considered the biggest trade in sports history.

Nonetheless, some have shared their reaction to the trade, one which included Mavericks' legend Dirk Nowitzki who couldn't seem to believe the trade himself. Nowitzki sent a surprised emoji on X, formerly Twitter, as he couldn't put his reaction into words.

Nowitzki played with Doncic during his rookie season and have been close since then, and it definitely came as a surprise to him that he was traded.

Doncic will now be headed to the Lakers, and he will be the future of the team and take over the reins when LeBron James retires. For the Mavericks, they get a dominant big man in Davis, and they may have one of the better frontcourts in the league now.

Many are wondering why the Mavericks would want to trade a top-3 player in the league, and his conditioning may have been one of the issues, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

“The Mavs had major concerns about moving forward with Luka Doncic due to his constant conditioning issues and the looming commitment of another supermax contract extension this summer, sources told ESPN,” MacMahon wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Doncic's conditioning did seem to be an issue, and the Mavericks wanted to get ahead of it before it got worse. It'll be interesting to see if this trade works out for both teams in the short term, but in the long term, the Lakers might be the biggest winners after acquiring one of the best players in the league.
