The Los Angeles Lakers have been assessing a lot of candidates for their head coaching post. Names like James Borrego, and JJ Redick have been linked to replace Darvin Ham. But, one big individual entered the fray and it looks like he is taking that role sooner than later. Dan Hurley out of UConn could be the next person to lead LeBron James and Anthony Davis to a Larry O'Brien trophy. Jason Kidd could not help but comment on the situation amid the Dallas Mavericks' NBA Finals battle with the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers see Dan Hurley as the best possible candidate as a head coach whether it is in the NBA or in college. So, they are immediately trying to get a deal done as soon as the rumors hit the public. This comes as a shock to most of the basketball world. But, this does not mean that it is not seen as a positive. Jason Kidd outlined how the Lakers could benefit from both Dan Hurley and JJ Redick vying for the position, via Daniel Donabedian of ClutchPoints.

“I'm happy when you talk about Hurley being mentioned as a candidate, JJ being mentioned. Two different paths… Both basketball IQs are extremely high…,” the Mavericks head honcho said.

Apparently, Jason Kidd has had experiences with both of these Lakers head coaching candidates. Hurley came earlier than Redick in his life but he seems to be vouching for both to land the position.

“I've gotten to play with Hurley in high school, he is a warrior, he's a champion… But JJ also has a basketball IQ and understands how to play the game the right way,” Kidd declared.

Hurley does have a big edge over Redick. He just won back-to-back titles with UConn. His player development program is fairly good because of his ability to produce prospective NBA Draft lottery picks in his recent stints. Moreover, his brand of basketball is also dynamic to the personnel given in front of him. Both of those come very handy for a Lakers squad who are trying to win as soon as possible.

Redick, however, has been able to get closer to the NBA throughout his career. He had a great career with franchises like the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers. Not to mention, this elite sharpshooter also got to learn under the wing of Mike Krzyzewski when he was with the Duke basketball program. All of which mixed with his time of breaking down plays as an analyst have compounded his insane basketball IQ. The only big drawback is that he has never been a head coach in college or in the pros. He will need a significantly stacked coaching staff if he wants to compete very early.

There are doubts about both of these candidates. But, there are definitely a lot of people waiting for either of them to make it to the league like the Mavericks' head honcho. The Lakers are a big organization that are capable of making the right choices. Hopefully, they do the same in this coaching search.
