DALLAS — Luka Doncic's injury status has received much attention so far during the NBA Finals. He's been dealing with a right knee sprain and left ankle soreness in addition to a thoracic contusion. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks star received a pain-killing injection before Game 2 of the NBA Finals. MacMahon also reports that Doncic is expected to receive similar treatment before Game 3 on Wednesday.

So how is Doncic feeling at the moment?

“I feel good,” Doncic said on Tuesday. “I don't want to get into any more details, but I feel good.”

Doncic has been listed as questionable or probable at various times throughout the playoffs. He has played in every single postseason game so far in 2024, though.

Concern increased after Doncic was downgraded from probable to questionable before Game 2. He still ultimately played and recorded a 32-point, 11-rebound, 11-assist triple-double. He added four steals as well. The Mavs were defeated 105-98 in the end, giving the Celtics a 2-0 series lead.

Doncic needs help. He's a great player but he cannot defeat the Celtics by himself. The Mavs' offense has struggled mightily through the first two games of the series, and Doncic revealed his message to the team on Tuesday.

“Just one thing, just keep shooting. We all believe in those shots. That's how we came to the Finals. And that's how we played the whole season. We believe in those guys. Everybody believes. If you're open, just keep shooting. You're gonna knock them down at some point.”

There were initially questions about how Doncic would perform in the NBA Finals. After all, he was dealing with multiple injuries heading into his first ever NBA Finals appearance. Yet, Doncic has remained consistent for the most part.

The remainder of the Mavs' roster has endured trouble on the offensive end of the floor. Dallas is playing well on defense, but they need to help Doncic in regards to scoring.

Luka is going to do everything he can. He will probably continue to score 30 or more points while putting his teammates in position to succeed. Of course, Dallas needs Kyrie Irving to find his form.

Irving is one of the best players in the NBA but he has not played up to his usual standards in the series. The good news is that we are only two games into the NBA Finals. There is still plenty of time for Kyrie and the Mavericks to get things going offensively.

As for Doncic, we will continue to monitor and provide updates on his injury status as they are made available. The expectation is for Luka Doncic to play in Game 3 but it will certainly still be a situation to keep an eye on.
