On Sunday evening, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks will hit the floor for Game 2 of the NBA Finals vs the Boston Celtics. The Mavericks dropped Game 1 of the series on Thursday in blowout fashion, and although Doncic scored relatively efficiently, the Celtics limited the Dallas star's ability to facilitate, as Doncic finished with a shocking one assist, which was a playoff career low.

On Sunday afternoon, Mavericks fans received a scare when it was announced that Doncic was being downgraded from probable to questionable for the game with a series of ailments, but thankfully, they can now breathe a sigh of relief thanks to the latest intel from NBA insider Marc Stein.

“Luka Dončić, I'm told, is on course to play in tonight's Game 2 of the NBA Finals as you would expect as we close in on tipoff in about four hours … despite the discomfort visible during yesterday's open media session in Boston,” reported Stein on his account on X, the social media platform formerly referred to as Twitter.

Doncic has been listed as questionable numerous times in this postseason as he deals with various leg injuries, but has yet to miss a game so far in the playoffs.

Can the Mavericks bounce back?

There was not a ton to be encouraged about from a Mavericks perspective on Thursday evening from Boston. The Celtics made it a point to guard Doncic in one on one coverage, primarily with Jaylen Brown, in an attempt to limit the Mavericks' supporting cast from getting into a rhythm.

Unfortunately for Dallas, that plan was largely successful, as the Mavericks finished with a season low in assists and Doncic was unable to get any of his teammates going, including Kyrie Irving, who lost his eleventh straight game vs his former team.

If the Celtics come out with a similar strategy on Sunday, it will be critical for Doncic to punish them early and often by consistently taking Brown to the basket and either drawing fouls or getting efficient shot opportunities around the rim.

Game 2 is slated to tip off at 8:00 PM ET and will be carried by ABC.
