We're ready for our coverage of the NBA Finals to continue as we head back to Boston for Game 2. We'll be bringing you our betting prediction and pick as Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks visit Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics to continue this series. The Boston Celtics lead the series 1-0 following their 107-89 Game 1 win. Check out our NBA odds series for our Mavericks-Celtics prediction and pick.

The Dallas Mavericks are down 0-1 in this series following a tough loss in the opening game of these Finals. It's nothing new to them as they've fallen behind o-1 in most of their playoff series, but this task may be tougher given the historical context of teams that lose the first game of the finals. They'll be looking to bounce back after a sleepy Game 1 performance.

The Boston Celtics look to have control of this series after winning Game 1 by an 18-point margin and they were up by 30 points at one juncture of the game. Known to take a game off during their Playoff series, the Celtics will look to close this series early and finally exact their goal of hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy after being the most successful team in the regular season.

Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Mavericks came out flat to start the NBA Finals and there's no other way around it. Luka Doncic was visibly tired throughout the game and it's clear the depth of the Celtics is going to be a problem for this Mavericks team. Kyrie Irving also went 0-5 from three and while he usually has an easy time getting to the rim, the Celtics' defenders crashed on the rim every chance they got and made it a tough game for the Mavericks. In Game 2, the Mavericks will have to improve their shooting and make the most out of their chances at the line as they went 12 for 19 as a team in Game 1.

Luka Doncic was stellar with 30 points and 10 rebounds through the loss, but the stunning statistic was him notching only one assist on his stat line. The Mavericks have gotten to this point with their team play and role players heating up when they're needed most, so expect Luka Doncic to have a more active role in getting his teammates involved this time around. Their defense will also have to improve as they struggled to stop the Celtics from grabbing offensive rebounds.

Why The Celtics Could Cover The Spread/Win

The Boston Celtics cruised in Game 1 of the Finals and any concerns of having too much time off before the Finals have been dispelled by this point. The return of Kristaps Porzingis could have been the biggest boost to their already-stacked team as he showed off his range and nailed two deep three-pointers. He was also a huge presence for them around the rim and his defense visibly shook players like Derrick Lively in the post. Add Jayson Tatum's stellar shooting from three and his rebounding, the Boston Celtics had a perfect Game 1 to open the Finals.

Jaylen Brown is already putting his hat in the ring for MVP of the Finals, but it's been more of an impact with his defense than his offense. On two separate occasions, Brown stood under the rim and turned away two crucial buckets for the Mavericks. He also added 22 points and put on a defensive master-class all game, giving the Celtics the massive edge during their scoring run. If he and Derrick White can continue to stop Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving along the perimeters, this should be a short series for the Celtics.

Final Mavericks-Celtics Prediction & Pick

After Game 1, there's not much evidence that points towards the Mavericks making this a competitive series. However, they have the arguably best player in the series with Luka Doncic and it would be foolish to count this team out from winning at least one game this series.

The Mavericks will have to improve their defensive efforts this time around and take more chances from the three-point line. We haven't seen Kyrie Irving or Luka Doncic have consecutively bad games all Playoffs, so expect them to see a big bounceback in this one.

For our prediction, we're going to ride with the Dallas Mavericks to cover this spread in Game 2. I still like the Boston Celtics to win this game following their dominant performance in Game 1, but I expect Luka and the Mavs to shoot the ball much better and give themselves a chance here.
