The Dallas Mavericks are currently on an exhaustive search to find their new head coach for the coming season. There have been more than a few names that have been linked to the job opening in Dallas, and as it turns out, one particular Mavs legend has already declared his interest in potentially getting the opportunity to coach Luka Doncic and the rest of the team.

It wasn't too long ago that J.J. Barea was still part of the team's active roster. This time around, however, the 36-year-old is hoping that he gets an invite from Mavs team owner Mark Cuban to join the coaching staff:

“For sure,” Barea said on Friday when DallasBasketball.com asked him about the idea of coming back to Dallas to be a part of the next coaching staff. “That's what I want.”

To be clear, it doesn't look like Barea is gunning for the head coaching post. He has no experience as a coach, so at this point, he's just hoping that he gets the chance to join the coaching staff.

One thing Barea has going for him is that he already has a relationship with the players on the squad. He's played alongside Luka Doncic since the Mavs superstar joined the team, so he's probably in his good graces. Furthermore, Barea was also teammates with another Mavs legend in Dirk Nowitzki, who recently joined the organization as a special adviser.

Barea is one of the most well-loved figures for the Mavs, and much like Dirk, he too could bring some much-needed positivity to the team now that they're in a bit of a hole.
