Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban announced before tip-off of his team’s game versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday that $120,000 from their ticket sales on the night will be donated to the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

The Caribbean island was slammed hard last month by two devastating hurricanes, Irma and Maria, which left its residents in need of basic necessities and struggling to stand on their own feet once again.

One of the Mavs’ players, J.J. Barea, hails from Puerto Rico, and has been very active in helping his countrymen. When asked how he feels knowing his team will be donating a huge amount, he expressed how pleased he is with their gesture, and thanked the franchise on behalf of all Puerto Ricans, via Sports Day.

“It's been amazing — the help, and Cuban's idea of all this, and the planes,” he said. “There's no words I can say to describe it. I know the people in Puerto Rico are super-grateful for all we are doing.”

Other NBA teams have also done their part in making sure the recovery in Puerto Rico moves along faster. However, the Mavericks are understandably going the extra mile, as one of their key players is proudly representing his home.

It remains to be seen if they will be making more donations in the future, but with how active Cuban and the rest of the Mavs have been in sharing their blessings, it won’t come as a complete surprise if there will be some ticket sales from other games that will be sent to Puerto Rico as well.
