Dirk Nowitzki is no longer playing for the Dallas Mavericks, a bittersweet realization after a career that stretched longer than the average NBA player. And while the patented one-leg fadeaways will no longer be seen by Mavs fans in the American Airlines Center — aside from its silhouette in the arena floor and the occasional tribute by whichever player decides to do so — there is one thing that the German 7-footer does that remain inescapable.

His comedic chops — as the Mavs legend couldn't help but deliver a quip on his Twitter account on the way to the venue to watch a live game for the first time this season as his former team took the court against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Nowitzki Way” of course, is the newly-renamed street as a way to pay homage for the Dallas lifer. One of many such tributes with a gigantic statue apparently on the way too.

There's reason for the monstrous traffic too, as the Mavs are finally back to playing winning basketball after several seasons of tanking. Spearheaded by the MVP-caliber play of second-year guard and the reigning Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic along with a healthy Kristaps Porzingis, Dallas has raced to a 10-5 start after dispatching the Cavs in their second-straight 40+ point blowout.

It remains to be seen if the Mavs could actually do any damage in the postseason but the team would be happy to just nab a playoff berth and take things from there.

And Nowitzki would certainly be in the sidelines cheering them on.
