Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki is approaching yet another milestone in his career, as he could soon pass the legendary Wilt Chamberlain as the sixth-most prolific scorer in NBA history. The 7-footer needs only four points to pass Wilt The Stilt in the history books, having already surpassed the 30,000-point mark, aiming at Monday's home game against the Pelicans as his likely chance to move up the scoring ladder.

Nowitzki was surpassed by LeBron James for the title of sixth all-time leading scorer earlier this season, but he could regain that spot by leaving Chamberlain in the rearview mirror:

“Breaking records is always fun,” Nowitzki said, according to Dwain Price of Mavs.com. “If it happens at home it’s even more special for your fans that’s been riding with you for such a long time.”

Longtime point guard Devin Harris is one of the few players who has spent the majority of his career alongside Nowitzki, yet he maintains there is no internal debate as to who will be the one assisting the German international in this massive feat:

“There isn’t any internally (debate),” Harris said. “It’ll be me. Now that’s the end of that.”

Yet Harris and company know just how important it is for Nowitzki to leave his stamp in the game:

“It’s watching history,” Harris said. “I was here for 30,000 and I was able to get him the assist.

“You’re happy for him. He’s worked so hard for it. All the things he battled through this (past) summer to come back and play and compete and try to get to a higher level, you’re just happy for the guy.”

Despite finishing his 2017-18 season four games early to undergo ankle cleanup surgery, Nowitzki came back for another season with hopes to leave the Mavs on a winning note. And judging by his passion for the game, he might not be done just yet.
