Regardless of how the Dallas Mavericks’ season concludes this season, Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki’s place in the history of the NBA is secured. Even at age 39, the future Hall of Famer continues to amaze, as he is silently putting together yet another incredible campaign that only a few night have noticed – mostly because the Mavericks are in the middle of a horrendous year.

According to Reddit user ha1fhuman, Dirk Nowitzki has a legitimate chance of becoming the first player, who is at least 39-years-old, to finish a season having shot at least 45 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point area, and 90 percent from the free throw line.

To further demonstrate how rare it is for elder statesmen in the NBA to achieve those shooting percentage triple slash line, ha1fhuman also noted that even if we lowered the age requirement to 37, only Steve Nash has so far achieved this remarkable feat.

Nash and Nowitzki used to be teammates with the Mavs before, so it would be cool to see Dirk join his best friend on the list at the end of this season.

Nowitzki’s game has declined over the past few seasons because of his age, but he remains a deadly perimeter shooter, who will make opponents pay more often than not if they left him open. On the season, the German bucket-maker is averaging 12.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

The Mavericks are having a tumultuous season – on and off the court – but Nowitzki is certainly doing his part of making this year as palatable as possible for the team’s fans.
