In Friday's contest with the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki played his 18th and, possibly, final game in Beantown. Entering the night, te had the opportunity to pass Kobe Bryant for the most points ever scored in the arena by a Western Conference opponent.

However, Dirk Nowitzki took 10 shots and missed all of them. This allowed Bryant's total points of 427 to reign supreme.

After the game, the Mavs icon told reporters that the game meant a lot to him, per ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

“Yeah, I mean super sweet, super emotional. It's sweet when not only your home fans, but the fans on the road, that appreciate what you've done in the last two decades. I appreciate the fans of Boston and, unfortunately, really disappointed I couldn't even make one… Everybody's career comes to an end. It's not like it is sneaking up on you after 21 years. Like I said, I'm trying to enjoy it. I'm trying to enjoy my teammates… ‘ve talked to a lot of guys who have hung it up … and they all say two things: it's the competition and the camaraderie in the locker room that you're going to miss. So I am going to try to soak it all up.”

Dirk Nowitzki, on the season, has averaged 4.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.2 assists through nine contests and just 80 total minutes played. He's shot 41.2 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from deep, fairly efficient numbers.

The Mavs are now 18-20 on the season and sit 10th in the NBA's Western Conference. They will face off next against the Philadelphia 76ers this upcoming Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.
