The Dallas Mavericks are down 2-0 to the Phoenix Suns. After keeping it close for much of the game, they fell apart down the stretch and lost by a score of 129-109. Luka Doncic had an efficient 35 points but Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said that it wasn't enough for the NBA playoffs.

Kidd said after the game that no one else besides Doncic had a good game. He explained that the Mavs can't win with Doncic carrying the whole team, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

“He had a great game, but no one else showed,” Kidd said. “We've got to get other guys shooting the ball better. We can't win with just him out there scoring 30 a night — not at this time of the year. And we're playing the best team in the league, so we've got to get other guys going.”

Kidd blasting nearly his entire team is a tough look but he is right. The Mavs need a great effort from their entire team in order to compete with the Suns. Reggie Bullock and Spencer Dinwiddie were the only other Dallas players to score in double figures besides Doncic. Phoenix won by 20 points despite having only a six-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Dallas has to get their shooters going again. Kidd has to figure out how to get Jalen Brunson back to being a dangerous scorer rather than someone who is a non-factor. The Mavs will have the chance to play on their homecourt for the next two games. They may be eliminated from the NBA playoffs, even with another Luka Doncic masterclass, if they can't play at a high level as a team.
