NBA Hall of Fame guard Jerry West, known as “The Logo,” is already heralding Dallas Mavericks second-year wing Luka Doncic as the “best” player in Mavs history.

Speaking to Kevin Sherrington on The Dallas Morning News, West was highly complimentary of the 20-year-old Mavs star, whom he also called a “genius” and a true “superstar.”

“Look at Dallas,” West said of the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year. “One player has transformed them into a playoff team. He will be the best player Dallas has ever had.

“I have great respect for Nowitzki, but Dirk is not him.”

Dirk Nowitzki is the Mavs' leader in nearly every statistical category along with being in sixth place on the NBA's all-time career scoring leaders.

While Nowitzki, also an MVP and champion with Dallas, is sure to be a Hall of Fame inductee in several years after retiring following the 2018-19 season, Jerry West is already predicting that Luka Doncic will surpass him in achievements.

The Mavs acquired Doncic in a draft night trade with the Atlanta Hawks in 2018, taking home the third overall selection in exchange for Trae Young and a future first-round pick.

So far, both players look incredible. Doncic is leading the Mavs to an early postseason berth if the standings hold while breaking out as a bona fide star in the NBA.

West, a former Laker lifer who later consulted the Golden State Warriors, is now an executive for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was a 14-time All-Star and NBA champion as a player. However, later during his executive days, he earned eight more rings with the the Purple andf Gold and the Dubs.
