Dallas Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis believes the Mavs are now headed in the right direction. With Porzingis and company managing to defeat the Houston Rockets 137-123 on Sunday, the Mavericks now sit at 11-5 on the season.

Now just ahead of the 11-6 Rockets in the ever competitive Western Conference standings, perhaps the Mavs will use the team's latest victory as a springboard for the remainder of the 2019-20 regular season.

“We’re getting a little bit of that killer instinct, I think,” Porzingis recently said, via Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “No way were we going to let that game get away at the end.”

Porzingis, who infamously made his way to Dallas by way of a trade from the New York Knicks, is currently in the midst of his first season as a member of the Mavericks. Serving as the team's second-best overall player on Sunday afternoon against the aforementioned Rockets, Porzingis finished the weekend outing with 23 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. He notably led the Mavericks in rebounding against the Rockets.

However, Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic once again impressed in a major way en route to producing a massive statistical performance in Houston. Doncic tallied a whopping 41 points, 10 assists and six rebouds while leading the Mavericks in scoring and assisting.

With the tandem of Porzingis and Doncic currently playing at an extremely high level on a regular basis — especially the latter, the Mavericks have a real shot at contending atop the Western Conference playoff time.
