The Dirk Nowitzki era in the Dallas Mavericks was probably the best period in the franchise's history. But now that it's done, the team is about to welcome the new era led by the young duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.

For longtime Mavs coach Rick Carlise, the two should always remember the franchise's history — who and what came before them. They should keep in mind that before them, the likes of Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, and Jason Terry were seminal in creating the winning culture in Dallas. Carlisle believes, too, that Doncic and Porzingis are ready and excited to take the reins from the aforementioned players.

“I think that it’s really important to always remember (Nowitzki’s) massive contributions to this franchise, to a championship, and to the kind of integrity that he brought to the club, both as a player and as someone in the community,” Carlisle said, per Dwain Price of mavs.com. “It’s a big change without him.

“But Luka and KP have got to take the reins from Dirk and Jason Kidd and Jason Terry and that group of franchise players. I know they’re excited to take on that challenge.”

It definitely is an exciting time to be a Mavericks fan. They are indeed one of the best franchises in the league. They gave us the legendary Nowitzki and the German completely revolutionized the game. Now, they're going to offer the young and potent duo od Doncic and Porzingis. Who knows how big of an impact and influence their tandem is going to bring to the game.
