Lost among the shuffle of the handful of rule changes announced by the NBA last week is a few notes on improving traveling violations, particularly on defining the ‘gather' step mostly associated with stepbacks. Unfortunately, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has a player in his ranks that is well-known for such move in Luka Doncic — and he's a little worried.

The outspoken Mav joined the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday to discuss a number of topics, one of which is the tweaked traveling rules addressing their own budding star as well as the progenitor of the move that attracted enough controversy to have the law amended in the first place — the Houston Rockets' James Harden.

“You have some guys that will take 30 steps in a gather so that's going to be better. It'll be interesting to see how they call it. You take Luka's stepback or James Harden, it's supposed to be legal but who knows how they would really review it? But that's definitely the more interesting thing.”

In the past, the official NBA Referees Twitter account has officially cleared one of Doncic's stepbacks.

While Harden's stepback and other questionable offensive moves being called down the line is good news for the Mavs and the 28 other teams, this still doesn't bode well for Doncic given that the reigning Rookie of the Year has had his fair share of traveling violations in his neophyte season alone, all of which are unrelated to the move.

So Cuban certainly has a cause for concern, depending on how the officials interpret the updated language.
