The Dallas Mavericks trading Kristpas Porzingis at the trade deadline for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans seemed more like a move to open up cap space than anything. But it proved to have a real advantage for the Mavs, as Dinwiddie has quickly become one of their best players.

With the Mavericks, Dinwiddie is averaging 17.9 points and 4.3 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from deep. After some late-game heroics in a win against the Boston Celtics, Dinwiddie hit a game-winner against his former team, the Brooklyn Nets, to improve Dallas to an 8-2 record since the All-Star break.

Before the game, Dinwiddie called it that he would hit a game-winner. After he delivered on his promise Dinwiddie walked up to Dallas general manager Nico Harrison and celebrated. At the moment, he was so excited that he forgot about the last two games the Mavs have on their road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets.

The addition of Dinwiddie gives the Mavs a much-needed scorer off the bench or in the starting lineup alongside Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson. As they look to finally break out of the first round of the playoffs, his contributions will be very important.

Very rarely does a midseason trade acquisition make such an impact. Usually, it's players who are already All-Stars that make such huge impacts. The Mavs are getting that out of Dinwiddie, who is proving that his bad stint with the Washington Wizards was a fluke.
