VIDEO: Dirk Nowitzki in attendance for his first Mavs game since retiring, gets standing ovation
Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki has been keeping busy since retiring from the NBA last season after 21 fruitful years. From having a street officially named after him to buying a billionaire-owned estate, the list keeps on growing. But one thing the Mavs great has yet to do in the 2019-20 regular season is attending a game at the American Airlines Center.
That changed on Friday night as the 7-footer sat courtside with owner Mark Cuban as they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and was not surprisingly serenaded by the crowd with a chorus of cheers once his familiar image was shown on the jumbotron.

Nowitzki’s absence is more out of preferring to not draw attention away from the team, particularly the franchise’s new superstar in Luka Doncic and their amazing start.
The Mavs own a 9-5 record, their best after several seasons of going through a rebuilding phase as they now aim for a playoff berth and possibly some awards.
