Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook not only had his best season as a pro this year, but also one for the ages, as he became the first player in 55 years to average a triple-double throughout the regular season. That said, it was expected that he was nominated for the MVP Award and a lock for the All-NBA First Team. When the results were released though, it was surprising to see that there was one member of the media that voted for James Harden and Stephen Curry ahead of him, and only considered him worthy of the second team instead.

Many thought that the media member was a fan of the Golden State Warriors star guard and also voted for him for the MVP Award as well, but as it turned out, he also chose Westbrook to win it.

The selection process for postseason awards has been the subject of a lot of controversy and even scrutiny over the past couple of seasons. The NBA has also acknowledged some of the panel’s questionable results, which may lead the league’s front office to possibly look into changing it in the future and come up with a way to make it better.

For what it’s worth, many feel that Westbrook truly deserves to win the plum for his historic feat and incredible performances throughout the campaign. Despite not receiving all first team votes, it does not matter anymore at this point, as he was named to it and was also named the best player of this year.
