New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard took a shot at the team's former owners, the Wilpon family, upon new owner Steve Cohen being approved Friday.

Syndergaard alluded to the Wilpons' mismanaging personnel and mishandling players, iterating he hopes Cohen and new management will be more keen on treating players with respect:

“All I plead is that the new owner treats players and personnel in the organization like people and less like expendable commodities,” Syndergaard said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post. “That being said, I couldn’t be more excited having the real life Bobby Axelrod leading the charge.”

Syndergaard probably has as much reason to despise the Wilpons as anyone.

“Thor” has constantly been at the focus of nonstop trade chatter in the last few years. During that time, the Mets showed very little willingness to even enter into contract extensions.

The 28-year-old has also lacked a ton of support while dealing with a slew of injuries throughout his career. Syndergaard missed the entirety of the 2020 campaign, though he will be hoping to reinvigorate the Mets' rotation next season.

New York will certainly need Thor to stay healthy, especially if the Mets fail to add much starting pitching in the offseason.

Cohen's approval could make the Mets major players in free agency given his wealth and willingness to pump capital into the baseball operations side of ownership. Perhaps this could also mean an extension for Syndergaard down the line, though he will have to prove he is healthy, first.
