Formerly known as Ron Artest, Metta World Peace changed his name in an attempt to make a change to his public image.

The former Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Sacramento KingsNew York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Indiana Pacers forward has had a wonderful playing career that has at times been marred by moments of unnecessary violence or unpredictability.

After winning an NBA championship in 2010, World Peace thanked his psychiatrist and the popular brand of cereal Wheaties for the part they played in his success.

The New York native has also spent a few years playing in China and Italy. In a recent interview with ESPN’s Ian Begley, he spoke on how he sees himself as a life-coach for many younger guys.

“Right now, I’m life coaching a lot of people that are in the NBA,” he said. “I can’t say who. But I coach a couple players. But it’s not a thing where I’m going to hide and be that perfect mentor. I just give them the best advice I can and live my life accordingly. I’m doing that now and one day I would love to coach. The Lakers are tattooed in my heart. They gave me a second chance when everyone was down on me, they gave me a chance to win a ring. The city of Los Angeles, they put up with me. Because in our world, the world of corporate basketball, you should act accordingly, you know? And I don’t like to act accordingly. I’m just trying to be authentic. I’m trying, as much as possible, to keep that if I coach one day.”

Many people would question World Peace’s ability to impart knowledge to fellow professionals, but there is no doubting that the veteran has been through a lot in the league.
