The 41st National Sports Collectors Convention was definitely one for the ages. With tons of hot cards sold, new markets catered to, and a couple of incidents under its belt, this event will surely be one for the books. Another reason why it’s going to be unforgettable is the confirmed sale of a monster Mike Trout card recently. A Mike Trout 1/1 card to be exact.

Scott Keeney, or more popularly known as DJ Skee, was joined by venture capitalist brothers Courtney and Carter Reum to start an investment fund amounting to $1.05 million. The money was then used to purchase a 2011 Topps Update Mike Trout 1/1 rookie card during the Nationals itself. PWCC Marketplace acted as a broker for the said transaction.

As it stands, this hot item just became the most expensive Mike Trout rookie card ever sold, and the second most expensive card of the baseball star out there.  It comes behind a 2009 Bowman Chrome Superfractor card that was sold last August 2020 for a whopping $3.9 million.

Mint 10 LLC, the investment fund responsible for purchasing this card, said that around $4 million has been committed since they opened this year. Apart from investing in sports cards, they also back collectible startup companies, such as Starstock, Whatnot, and Loupe, among others.

This particular Mike Trout card is the largest item MInt 10 has invested in so far. And with this kind of insane transaction happening in the market, there’s bound to be a couple more happening in the near future. Of course, it’s safe to say that the upcoming Nationals will be an event where these massive deals become a reality.
