MLB is hiring former Cy Young award wining pitcher CC Sabathia as a special assistant to commissioner Rob Manfred, per Bob Nightengale. According to Nightengale, Sabathia's role will focus on the following, “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, social responsibility, youth participation and broadcasting.”

CC Sabathia was a six-time All-Star and one-time Cy Young award winner who spent 20 years in the MLB between Cleveland, Milwaukee, and New York. Sabathia's most prominent years came with the Guardians and Yankees, but he played a big role in the Brewers 2008 postseason run as well. His Cy Young award came in 2007 with Cleveland.

Sabathia is remembered as one of the best pitchers of the 21st century.

He has long been outspoken about his thoughts and beliefs and is not shy about sharing them. His presence in the MLB front office should be highly beneficial in growing the game. He has long been a proponent of increasing diversity in baseball and hopes to help new fans and athletes come to love baseball like he does.

Manfred's reputation has dwindled, to put it lightly, over the past few years. His efforts to promote baseball have mostly faltered and his recent approach to the MLB lockout rubbed players and fans the wrong way. But Sabathia's practical perspective and common sense approach could help Manfred be a better overall commissioner. Hiring Sabathia could be a move that ultimately plays a role in saving baseball.

It will be interesting to see how CC Sabathia helps Rob Manfred and MLB moving forward.
