The San Francisco Giants are in San Diego to take on the Padres in the rubber-match of a three-game set. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Giants-Padres prediction and pick. These teams have split the first two games of the series and have a pitchers duel set for Wednesday afternoon. Hard throwing right-hander Kevin Gausman and crafty left-hander Blake Snell will each take the bump for the second time in 2021.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Giants-Padres odds.

MLB Odds: Giants-Padres Odds

San Francisco Giants +1.5 (-155)

San Diego Padres -1.5 (+135)

Over 7.5 Runs (-102)

Under 7.5 Runs (-118)

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

The San Francisco Giants will hope to steal another game in San Diego and win their first series of the young season. The Giants dropped their first series in Seattle and are looking to get on the right track early in the year. They won the first game on Monday night on some late inning heroics from Mike Yastrzemski. Yastrzemski's seventh-inning homer put the Giants on top and they never looked back in a 3-2 victory. San Francisco ran into a freight-train in the second game and will look to get the bats going in a big way.

The Giants currently sit atop the league in average home runs per game (2.25) and possess the eighth-best OPS (.760). The lineup certainly has some pop and can do damage in the blink of an eye. San Francisco needs to find other ways to score runs in order to sustain success in 2021, though. They've enjoyed lefty's this season, going 2-1 in three games against southpaws. The Giants will turn to Kevin Gausman in the finale. The 30-year-old  right-hander allowed just two hits and one earned run in 6.2 innings in the opener against Seattle. He will enter this one with the luxury of not having to see young slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. step into the box.

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

The San Diego Padres will send out their newly acquired left-hander Blake Snell for the second time in 2021. The former AL Cy Young award winner had a strong debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing four hits and no runs in 4.2 innings of work. He is an integral part of the Padres newly assembled pitching rotation that they hope will get them over the edge this season. Luckily for Snell, the Padres already possess one of the most potent lineups in all of baseball.

It's always a nice luxury for a pitcher knowing that they'll be throwing with a lead more times than not. San Diego's lineup is currently hitting .265/.374/.432 on the young season. It's clear what you're going to get from Padre bats on a nightly basis. The same can't be said about the San Francisco Giants, though. Giants hitters are way too dependent on the long-ball, which will prove fruitful for Snell and his ability to miss bats. San Diego will beat San Francisco in a slugfest nine times out of 10.

Final Giants-Padres Prediction & Pick
