The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to dominate MLB free agency, with yet another huge acquisition. Los Angeles reportedly is in agreement with outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on a huge one-year, $23.5 million deal. The Dodgers were not without competition to land Hernandez, though, it seems their rivals for Hernandez's services, including the Boston Red Sox, did not try hard enough (via Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com).

Red Sox lose Teoscar Hernandez sweepstakes vs Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are slated to beat out the Red Sox for the services of former Mariners star Teoscar Hernandez in MLB Free Agency.

Hernandez is coming off a relatively disappointing 2023 season with the Seattle Mariners. During that campaign, the former All-Star slashed only .258/.305/.435 with a 106 OPS+. However, his power was still there, as evidenced by the fact that he hit a total of 26 home runs in his only season with the Mariners. His production at the plate was mostly hurt by his high strikeout rate of 31.1 percent — his worst in four seasons. In addition, Hernandez also had a career-worst 5.6 percent walk rate. All that being said, his potential to contribute to an already-loaded Dodgers roster can't be too underestimated.

Apart from the Red Sox, the Los Angeles Angels were also the other team reportedly in pursuit of Hernandez, who turned 31 years old last October.

Even though they missed out on Hernandez, the Red Sox still got some significant additions to the team in the offseason, thus far. For one, Boston signed free agent pitcher Lucas Giolito during the first week of 2024.
