The Oakland Athletics have made their stance for the 2022 season very clear with their actions during the offseason. By trading star first baseman Matt Olson and third baseman Matt Chapman, the Athletics signaled a desire to retool and get younger across the roster. After cleaning house, Oakland is still looking to move another name. The Athletics are reportedly working on a trade for left-handed starting pitcher Sean Manaea, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Rosenthal cites teams in trade discussions with the Athletics, who have said that the team is “focused” on dealing Sean Manaea. The club has yet to make a decision on the future of fellow starter Frankie Montas.

Manaea, 30, is coming off of a solid season for Oakland. The Indiana State University product went 11-10 with a 3.91 ERA while striking out 194 batters in 179 1/3 innings pitched in 2021. There will certainly be plenty of suitors for his services.

Oakland has already shipped away one starter, Chris Bassit, to the New York Mets, so there's clearly trade interest in the Athletics' pitching staff. Teams such as the New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers have expressed interest in Manaea.

The 30-year-old lefty would fit nicely on each of those respective teams' staffs as a solid number-three starter. It seems increasingly likely that Manaea will be pitching in a different uniform in 2022.
