Former Oakland Athletics slugger Jeremy Giambi passed away at the age of 47 in his parents' home in Southern California. Giambi, brother of fellow MLB slugger Jason Giambi, played six seasons in the big leagues spanning stints with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
Giambi compiled a .263 career batting average with 52 homers and 209 runs batted in. He played for some excellent Athletics' teams, such as the 2000-2002 teams, squads that won no less than 91 games during that span.
Giambi's tragic death prompted his former team, the Athletics, to post a heartfelt statement on Twitter.
We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of our Green and Gold family, Jeremy Giambi. We offer our condolences to Jeanne, Jason, and his family and friends.
The Athletics were “heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of the Green and Gold family.” That's a touching statement in light of the tragic passing of Giambi.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of former MLB player Jeremy Giambi.
