The Atlanta Braves have made a couple of moves just several days before the August 1 MLB trade deadline. After trading for right-hander Pierce Johnson from the Colorado Rockies via a trade that sent pitching prospects Victor Vodnik and Tanner Gordon to the National League West club, the Braves struck a trade with the Texas Rangers, this time for the services of lefty Taylor Hearn.

Via Mark Bowman of MLB.com: “The Braves have also acquired Taylor Hearn from the Rangers. Both Hearn and Pierce Johnson who was acquired from the Rockies this morning have options. That's big. The Braves have been limited by the lack of optionable relievers in their pen this year.”

In a separate report from David O'Brien of The Athletic, it's been revealed that the Rangers are getting cash from the Braves in return for Hearn.

Hearn appeared for four games this season for the Rangers before being designated for assignment last week. In those mound appearances, Hearn had allowed eight earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts across seven innings.

Hearn is still under team control via arbitration-eligible years until the 2025 MLB season. He signed a one-year deal worth $1.4625 million with the Rangers last January to avoid arbitration.

Over the last two seasons, Hearn has posted a .329 BABIP. Better days could he ahead of him, and the Braves surely hope that they get to see that from the 28-year-old southpaw.

At the moment, the Braves' bullpen is dealing with injuries to Dylan Lee, Jesse Chavez, Nick Anderson, and AJ Minter.
