Henderson dealt with an intercostal muscle strain during spring training, and he ended up being forced to start the new season on the injured list. However, it doesn't seem like his stay on the list is going to end up being a very lengthy one, as he's expected to be activated and make his season debut for Baltimore on Friday against Kansas City.

“The Orioles expect to have Gunnar Henderson back tonight for his season debut,” Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported on Friday.

Orioles set for major Gunnar Henderson boost

Henderson enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2024, as he posted a .281 batting average while smacking 37 home runs, driving in 92 runs, and stealing 21 bases. Henderson's strong play earned him the first All-Star selection of his career, and he ended up finishing fourth in the crowded American League MVP race.

Baltimore hasn't necessarily played poorly to start the season, but you can bet they will be thrilled to get arguably their best player in Henderson back on the field. It may take him some time to hit the ground running, but he's only missed seven games, so he ultimately shouldn't be too far behind the rest of his teammates. The O's will be sending Dean Kremer to the mound on Friday, with Royals stud Seth Lugo drawing the start on the other side of things. First pitch is currently scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET.
