Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has resigned from his post just 21 games into the 2021 MLB season.

The Rockies announced Monday afternoon Bridich was stepping down as the team's GM. He will be replaced by Greg Feasel, who has been appointed Club President and will oversee all baseball operations.

Bridich has been the subject of immense scrutiny in recent seasons, notably for his handling of the Nolan Arenado situation.

The former Rockies third baseman openly voiced his frustration with the team's inactivity heading into the 2020 season, then told Denver7 in January he felt “disrespected” by Bridich.

Colorado eventually sent Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals for a prospect package including left-hander Austin Gomber. But the deal was more notable because of the fact the Rockies agreed to pay down over $50 million of Arenado's remaining salary of close to $200 million over the course of the next several years.

Ken Rosenthal and Nick Groke of The Athletic later wrote what amounted to an expose regarding the lack of communication in Colorado's front office. Executives around baseball essentially painted the Rockies as the laughingstock of MLB.

The Arenado trade was just the tip of the iceberg. Colorado has one of the worst farm systems in the majors. Star shortstop Trevor Story will be a free agent this winter and does not seem likely to remain with the team through the 2021 season.

The Rockies have the second-worst record in baseball. A rebuild is imminent. Bridich will not oversee said rebuild after a tumultuous tenure as GM.
