The Detroit Tigers had an interesting season last year. They finished 77-85 but there were many bright spots and they exceeded expectations. The future for Detroit is one of the brightest in baseball. Bringing in some new faces and an old one in Justin Verlander could make this Detroit team compete for an AL Central title.

The AL Central is a very winnable division. The White Sox were able to win the division this season but were knocked out early in the playoffs. The division has been at question for a few years now due to a lack of competitiveness. It's a perfect time for the Tigers to get a move on in their rebuild and make some moves and compete for a division title.

The Tigers had some young stars this year including Akil Badoo and Casey Mize. Add in Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson and the future is bright for this Detroit organization.

The Tigers could look to add a familiar face in Justin Verlander. They might even look to add his teammate in Carlos Correa. Let's take a look at a few players the Tigers could add this off-season.

Three Players The Tigers Should Target This Off-Season

Justin Verlander

What he did for the city of Detroit and for this Tigers organization will never be replaced. Verlander spent most of his career with the Detroit Tigers where he proved that he was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Verlander is coming off an injury but in a recent bullpen, he was still throwing close to 100 mph showing that the velocity is still there. He pitched for the Tigers for 13 seasons and had a 183-114 record. He also had a 3.49 era and recorded over 2,300 strikeouts in his time in Detroit. Verlander is an eight-time All-Star, World Series champion, AL MVP, two-time AL Cy Young Award winner, and was also a three-time wins leader in the MLB. On top of all this, he has also thrown 3 no-hitters, two being in Detroit.

Signing him back could add some veteran presence around the locker room and they will also get a guy who can come in and help you get 15 wins when he's on the mound. With the background of him being in Detroit and him finally being a free agent once again, it would make a lot of sense for the Tigers to heavily pursue Verlander.

Carlos Correa

This is one of the best shortstop free agent markets that the MLB has ever seen. It would be tough to argue that it isn't the best of all time. This is a perfect time for the Tigers to go out and make a move on both former Astro players.

Bringing Carlos Correa along with Justin Verlander would make this team so much better. It's also going to help that Verlander has spent most of his career in Detroit and he can help bring one of his friends back to the city with him.

Carlos Correa has proved time and time again that he's one of the best players in baseball. He did this last season once again by having the highest WAR amongst position players. Correa features an elite bat and also plays one of the best defensive shortstops in the MLB.

Correa might be expensive but if they feel like they can compete this season and for the next few years, they might look to do that.

Bryan Reynolds

Reynolds was about the only bright spot for the Pittsburgh Pirates this season. They have made it seem like they are shopping him but it's going to be for a hefty haul. He could be somebody that the Tigers go after but it might end up losing them a few of their top prospects. If they can find a way to only give up one of their top prospects and mix in other guys this would definitely be a trade that they need to make. Reynolds is one of the best players in the MLB and whenever you can add a 26-year-old elite player to a young core, you have to do it.

The future is extremely bright in Detroit. They have one of the best young cores in baseball and also have some prospects that can come up and potentially make an immediate impact. Adding a few of these veteran-type guys who can come in and help you win now while also helping the younger guys will be huge for their future. Whenever you can find some guys who can come in and make immediate impacts but also teach the ropes to the prospects, you have to do it. They might decide to just have their youngsters be the future of their franchise and not make many moves this offseason. It wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea but they do have the talent to compete in the AL Central now and bringing in a few pieces will definitely help them.
