Freddie Freeman has been the talk of the offseason!
The Braves, Yankees, and Dodgers were the projected favorites to be fighting over him in the end. However, Atlanta decided to go with Matt Olson instead and New York opted to sign a cheaper option in Anthony Rizzo, leaving the Dodgers as the only one remaining out of the big three. It should be noted that they are not without competition, as Toronto, Boston, and Tampa Bay have all expressed interest in the 2020 NL MVP.
But a recent report from John Morosi on Twitter states that Los Angeles and Freeman are inching closer to a deal that could be worth upwards of $150 million. Ken Rosenthal followed Morosi's Tweet by declaring the deal could be around six years.
At this moment, nothing is imminent. It would be surprising if Freeman ends up elsewhere given how close these talks seem to be. However, there have been times in the past where players were reportedly close to signing with teams before changing their minds last second and heading elsewhere. But with Spring Training games starting this week, the time for Freeman to sign is now. If this deal comes to fruition, it might not be announced until late tonight or tomorrow morning. At the same time, it could be announced within the hour.
One interesting note worth mentioning is that if Freeman signs in Atlanta, there is a strong chance that the Braves and Dodgers could meet in the NL postseason. Seeing Freeman take on the Braves in the playoffs while playing for Los Angeles would be worth the price of admission alone.
