With the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers in a tight race in the National League West, both teams are looking to add starting pitching to fill out their respective rotations. It seems as though the two bitter rivals have set their eyes on the same prize, as MLB.com's Mark Feinsand says both the Dodgers and Giants are looking to trade for Kansas City Royals starter Danny Duffy.

Duffy has had the best year of his career in 2021, posting a 2.51 ERA over 12 starts with 65 strikeouts. With Kansas City fully out of contention, the club will be looking to sell as this trade deadline approaches. Duffy is most likely the first to go.

The Dodgers came into this season with a very solid rotation. But because of an injury to Dustin May and the uncertainty that the Trevor Bauer case brings, they are looking to add at the deadline.

The Giants have had success from their rotation all season, but they could move Johnny Cueto into a long relief role. Cueto has a 4.09 ERA on the season, so bringing in Duffy would be an upgrade. Duffy is currently on the 10-day IL with a flexor strain, but he's expected to be off in time for him to be traded.

The Dodgers and Giants are expected to be joined by the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres in their pursuit of  Danny Duffy.
