Bill Simmons has never made apologies for being a Boston sports fan. After all, he grew up just miles outside the city in Brookline. But he has made a career in never failing to tell it like he sees it, whether that's good or bad for his team, or another. But in particular, he appears to enjoy taking jabs at the New York Yankees.

On Wednesday evening, Simmons took to Twitter and did it again, reminding Yankees fans of a painful truth. He did however begin with what most Bostonians would do, which is to self-loathe.

“This Red Sox season is a horror movie. Thank God the Yankees are gonna win 98 games and then choke in the playoffs like always. At least we have that.”

It is undeniable, baseball in the 20th century belonged to the Yankees. However, since the century turned over, it has been mostly misery for Yankees fans.

New York has only won one World Series in 2009 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Outside of that run, the playoffs have not been kind to New York, despite making it all but four years this century. They have never made it to the World Series since 2009. The Yankees have lost four ALCS appearances, and are 7-16 in those series'.

To make matters worse, every few years their arch rival, the Boston Red Sox seem to win a World Series, or eliminate the Yankees. That happened last year in the AL Wild Card game, as well as the 2018 AL Divisional Round.

For a long time it seemed it was only a matter of time before the Yankees break through. But it's been so long, one has to begin to wonder.
