After reloading their offense with multiple new bats, and at the same time improving their defense, through recent offseason signings, the New York Mets are shifting their focus on adding another arm to their rotation, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

In a separate update from Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Mets are reportedly among the teams to watch in the Jon Gray sweepstakes.

#Mets are focused on pitching now. 1 name to watch: Jon Gray. Lots of interest in the industry on his upside and the Mets are part of the group that is trying for the RHP. Other clubs feel after Canha/Escobar/Marte, NYM will pivot to SP. 1 rival exec: “They want more than one.”

The Mets have just added Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar, so shoring up their rotation next seems to be an ideal move for the team. New York has just seen Noah Syndergaard jump conferences to sign with the Los Angeles Angels, while former Mets pitcher Steven Matz was not able to make a return to New York after inking a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets are currently left with Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman, though the latter's chances of running it back with the Mets as a free agent do not appear to be high.

As for Gray, he is an unrestricted free agent after spending his first seven seasons in the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies. So far in his career, he's posted an 8-12 record along with a 4.59 ERA, 107 ERA+, and 3.91 FIP in 152 appearances (151 starts).
