Needing a win to strengthen their chances of grabbing a spot in the 2021 MLB postseason as a wild card in the Americal League, the Toronto Blue Jays leaned on the power of shortstop Bo Bichette to score a 6-5 home win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
Bichette homered twice in that game, first in the bottom of the third inning then again in the bottom of the eighth frame, which gave the Blue Jays the lead for good.
As expected, Bichette loved the way he delivered at the plate just when his team needed it the most. After the contest, Bichette reflects on the big hits he made that helped Toronto move just a game away from the wild card threshold in the AL.

Bichette's first home run of the game gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead but the Yankees fought their way back into the contest, tying it all up at 5-5 at the top of the seventh winning with a two-run single by Kyle Higashioka.
Bichette now has 28 home runs in 2021 for the hardest-hitting team in baseball this year. So far this season, the Blue Jays have the most home runs (251) in the majors and the highest slugging percentage (.461).
Toronto will enter the three-game series finale against the Yankees this Thursday with an 88-70 record. Ahead of them in the AL wild-card race are the Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and the Seattle Mariners.
