The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to be one of the most competitive teams in the Majors and a legitimate threat to win the American League East. After acquiring the likes of Matt Chapman, Kevin Gausman, and Yusei Kikuchi, this core is looking scary.

The Jays are now eyeing former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, who is currently a free agent. The question remains though, would he play anywhere else but the Bronx.

Reports indicate Gardner is still waiting to see if the Yankees make him an offer to return. However, the Blue Jays could be wise to bring in a veteran like Gardner. It would give Toronto a left-handed bat in their outfield, which they currently lack.

The 38-year-old hit .222 with 10 home runs in 2021 in 140 games with New York. He's also been killing the Blue Jays over the years, clubbing 25 long balls against them. Gardner has never played for any other franchise than the Yankees, which is why it's not surprising that he's waiting it out.

The Blue Jays currently have an outfield of George Springer, Lourdes Gurriel, and Randal Grichuk. Garder wouldn't likely start, but he could add a punch off the bench for Toronto, who won 91 games last season but just narrowly missed out on a Wild Card spot.
