As the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a marathon that lasted 18 innings, 6-5, a key development for the team was the injury to George Springer in Game 3 of the World Series. While the Blue Jays' leadoff hitter in Springer left Game 3, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal discusses the potential chance of him returning for a crucial Game 4 with the team down 2-1 in the championship series.
Springer would get injured after fouling off a ball in the seventh inning, leading to “right side discomfort,” with Rosenthal even saying that “it would be a surprise” if he came back for Game 4. Rosenthal would mention that on top of the injury sustained on Monday night, he was also dealing with issues with his wrist and knee as well.
“Leadoff man George Springer left the game with right side discomfort after fouling off the first pitch of the seventh inning,” Rosenthal wrote in The Athletic. “He underwent an MRI, Schneider said, and the Jays did not immediately know the results. But it would be a surprise if Springer, who already was dealing with a banged-up wrist and knee, returned for Game 4.”
Blue Jays' John Schneider on next steps for George Springer

With fans looking for who's most to blame for the Blue Jays' losing in Game 3 to the Dodgers in the World Series, one has to wonder what impact Springer could have brought for the team down the stretch in extra innings. Toronto manager John Schneider would speak about Springer's “right side discomfort” as he was “not sounding overly bursting with optimism,” according to The Toronto Sun.
More information should be out soon regarding the severity, as Schneider confirmed after the loss that Springer went for an MRI, but would admit that the injury “sucks,” since he is “a huge part of our lineup.”
“He’s already went for an MRI,” Schneider said. “We’ll see how it comes back and see how he walks up tomorrow. But it sucks. He’s obviously a huge part of our lineup. Glad I got him out when I did, and hopefully it didn’t make anything worse. But we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen what happens with Springer's injuries and his availability, but the Blue Jays can't afford any more setbacks as the team is down 2-1 in the series with Game 4 on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
