Since establishing as a franchise in 1996, the Baltimore Ravens have won two Super Bowl titles and six AFC North division titles. However, there’s no denying that the Ravens have had their fair share of heartbreaking moments. In this article, we list the top three heartbreaking moments in Ravens history.

Divisional Round loss to the Colts

After having a dominant season in 2006, the Ravens suffered a shocking loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round. The Ravens had such a dominant season in 2006, especially their defense, which is why it was such a heartbreaking moment. The Ravens defense was ranked No. 1 in almost every ranking, which is extremely rare to do.

Even though the loss was very heartbreaking, it wasn’t that surprising. The Colts had an All-Pro quarterback in Peyton Manning and numerous weapons on defense. The Colts in 2006 were one of the most underrated teams in NFL history.

Nevertheless, this heartbreaking loss could also be looked at as a positive. A year later, the Ravens hired Jim Harbaugh and Joe Flacco, who were both key factors in the Super Bowl XLVII title.

The Ravens had one of the best seasons in franchise history in 2019. They finished with the best record in the NFL while breaking numerous franchise records. Several NFL analysts even predicted the Ravens were strong favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, their season came to a shocking end against the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Round. Not only did they lose, but they were defeated pretty severely.

The Ravens defense, which was ranked No. 4 in the league in 2019, had no solution on stopping running back, Derrick Henry. Henry erupted for 195 rushing yards, including a 66-yard run early in the third quarter.

Worst of all, the Ravens didn’t learn their lesson from the 2018 Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Chargers. In 2018, they played phenomenal in the second half of the season and looked almost unbeatable. However, when playoff time came, they underperformed.

Nevertheless, the Ravens.

Missed field goal kick against the Patriots

During the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots, kicker Billy Cundiff missed a game-tying field goal with 11 seconds remaining, ending their season. Although there’s no guarantee the they would’ve won in overtime, it was still a heartbreaking loss, especially since the Ravens performed outstandingly throughout the entire game.

Nevertheless, it wasn’t entirely Cundiff’s fault. The Ravens had plenty of opportunities to win the game in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Two plays before the game-tying field goal, wide receiver Lee Evans was stripped of the ball in the end zone by backup cornerback Sterling Moore.

Despite their heartbreaking loss against the Patriots, the Ravens got their revenge in the 2013 AFC Championship the following season. Additionally, they were able to defeat the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII.

And with that, the most heartbreaking moments in the history of the Baltimore Ravens is over. The good news is that, while sad, the Ravens are a storied franchise looking to duplicate success in the Lamar Jackson era.
