With all the trade chatter surrounding Paul George the past couple of weeks, the Indiana Pacers are believed to be facing a difficult situation, especially if their franchise player and leader will ultimately be dealt. Given their fairly inexperienced roster, it will be hard to find a player who can lead them to more success in the future.

However, they may not need to look far as one of their young guns has been vocal in wanting to become just that for them, and have a bigger role on the team. When asked to give his thoughts about the potential move that could land George elsewhere, Myles Turner admitted, via Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, that it's something he has no control on and that he understands his teammate needs what's best for him and his family. He then added that he is ready to take on the cudgels of being the face of the Pacers, and become their locker room leader as well.

If Paul George does leave, you’re going to be the face of the franchise. Are you ready for that? Myles Turner: “Without a doubt. I’ve had two years of experience and I know that’s not a whole lot, but with [what I’ve done] in that little sample size, I feel like I’m ready to take on more. I want to become a leader – why not start early? I’m really looking forward to our future. I feel like with the right pieces, we can go young and build for the future. And I’m ready to lead this young movement.”

Despite next season only the third of his pro career, Turner has showed a lot of improvement in his game, as well as maturity beyond his years. He has also been one of the team's bright spots outside of George, during its disappointing run in the playoffs this past season.

It may be easier said than done, but with the 21-year-old willing to take on more responsibility, it also proves that the Pacers' front office was right in choosing him in the draft. Should he ultimately take over George's reigns, it will be very interesting to see the reception he'll have from his teammates too, as it's not everyday that an NBA team will have a leader as young as him.
