Nate Diaz has been in an interesting spot lately with his UFC contract set to come to an end after one more fight. It's been difficult for the promotion to book him a fight as the two parties can't seem to agree on an opponent.

Nate Diaz's contract has been extended by the UFC. The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani on his substack.

“Sounds like the UFC is moving on from Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nathan Diaz fight and, as a result, have extended Diaz’s contract,” Helwani said. “I think they knew that would happen and were hoping to buy time for when Conor McGregor is ready to return later this year,” the report states.

“Diaz hasn’t signed any new deal yet, so that, too, is a fascinating story to watch next year.”

UFC contracts are normally extended after a fighter has declined a fight. The length is usually six months although it is unclear what length Nate Diaz's contract has been extended to.

The Stockton-based fighter wanted to fight Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson at welterweight. The UFC has not shown much interest in the fights and a deal for them was never talked about.

Dana White and the UFC wanted to book Nate Diaz against rising star Khamzat Chimaev but the former lightweight title challenger swiftly declined the matchup saying he didn't want to face a ‘rookie.'

It is unclear what the future holds for Diaz but it will be interesting to see if the UFC can hold on to him. He hasn't fought since facing Leon Edwards over the summer.
