Washington Nationals star Juan Soto won the Home Run Derby against Julio Rodriguez in thrilling fashion. In the process, he also made all kinds of history.

The 23-year-old Soto beat Julio Rodriguez in the finals after hitting 19 homers to the rookie's 18. In a rather entertaining tidbit, though, Soto defeated all his opponents by just one home run from start to finish. He took down Jose Ramirez 18-17 in the first round, and Albert Pujols 16-15 in the second.

Now according to ESPN Stats & Info, Soto is the second-youngest Home Run Derby champion in MLB history. He is only a day older (23 years, 8 months, 24 days) to Juan Gonzales (23 years, 8 months, 23 days) when the Texas Rangers star won it in 1993.

Soto is also only the second Nationals player to win the event, following in the footsteps of Bryce Harper in 2018. The youngster also follows Robinson Cano (2011) as Dominican-born derby champs.

Juan Soto has certainly cemented his status as one of the best hitters in the game today, and he hasn't even reached his peak yet. If he continues on the trend he's on, there is no doubt more history and new records await him.

Sure enough, the Nationals will hope Soto will make those records in Washington jersey. His name has been thrown in trade rumors as of late because of his contract situation with the team, and there is a real possibility he could leave.

For now, the Nationals can celebrate Soto's victory and pray later on that he stays with the franchise long-term.
