After announcing that all-time teams for all 30 NBA teams would be featured in NBA 2K, it was only right to look at what else is in store for fans on the classic front.

The New York Knicks and the Miami Heat formed one of the last great rivalries of the 1990's era of NBA basketball. That's why it's so appropriate that the team at NBA 2K felt it was necessary to add them onto the virtual hardwood as two of their 16 new classic teams.

Not only did the 98-99 Knicks trounce the No. 1-seeded Miami Heat from the playoffs with many of their main players including Patrick Ewing injured for a significant amount of time, but they also made it to the NBA Finals before being taken down by the San Antonio Spurs. They are probably the most forgotten Knicks team to win and later traded Ewing to the Sonics which ushered in the Knicks era we know today.

The 96-97 Heat were a 61-21 team which had the unfortunate meeting with the streaking Chicago Bulls led by Michael Jordan in the Eastern Conference Finals. They featured some tough players such as Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning so it's exciting to finally see them back together again even if it's only digitally.

Some not familiar with these teams nor their intense rivalry that personified the era of 90's basketball may not be too excited about the news, but older gamers and  NBA history buffs should be quite happy. In fact adding more history on the virtual court than ever before is always a plus, and you can look forward to starting a matchup between the two when NBA 2K releases on Sept 19.
